If you are trying to track everything going on at the massive South by Southwest festival in Austin, Texas that runs until March 18th, a good place to start is the festival’s Toolbox. The Toolbox contains links to MP3 foles, podcasts, mobile updates and schedulers. National Public Radio in the U.S. is also webcasting a number of concerts from the festival. Check out www.npr.org/southbysouthwest for their schedule.

On April 29th, 1967 there took place a legendary "happening" at London’s Alexandra Palace called the 14 Hour Technicolor Dream that featured a stoned John Lennon walking about all the freaking out that the "swinging sixties" were known for including an infamous performance by a band called The Pink Floyd. Well there is an attempt to commemorate this event with a 40th anniversary 14 Hour Technicolor Dream event. Unfortunately, its hard to get a handle on when tickets go on sale but I suppose if we all add them to our MySpace friends we will know soon enough. Sounds cool though.

Just a reminder that Canadian Music Week kicks off this week (March 7 - 10, 2007) in Toronto, Ontario. It will feature a shit-load of bands and conferences that will test even the most experienced music biz veteran. Thereis something there for everybody so check it out if you are in the area.

I am a big fan of CD Baby. Probably the largest distributor of indie rock on the planet, Derek Sivers and his crew have consistently given back to those musicians that utilize their service and by giving back I mean paying them for selling their CDs through CD Baby. This is pretty neat. A music blog driven showcase at this year’s SXSW 07 in Austin Texas. No The Rock and Roll Report is not represented and yes I am going to look into something like this for the future. Check out the excellent Rock Insider for more details. Great idea.

(Press Release) James Blunt, The Kaiser Chiefs, Editors, The Darkness, Jamie Cullum and KT Tunstall are among the internationally successful British recording artists that have been introduced to the United States through British Music at SxSW showcases in recent years.
The heritage continues at this years SxSW with a new look, feel and creative concept plus an increase in official networking events and parties to enable UK acts and delegates to make the most of the event.
The UK will be presenting four separate receptions under the British Music at SxSW umbrella as well as nations and regions parties and showcases from Wales, Scotland and the regions of England, plus showcases from British music brands such as BBC Radio and NME. The official UK artist line-ups will be released in on February 12th.
This year’s event is branded with The Duke, a character created by renowned British DC Comics graphic artist Jock (Batman, The Losers, Judge Dread). The Duke will be seen on the SxSW delegate bag and in the trade show hall marking a new bespoke stand for British delegates and their guests.

Nothing to do New Year’s Eve? Here’s and event for all you music lovers out there, especially those who grew up in the glorious 80’s. I decided to go to this shindig last year after one of my new favorite bands, The Eyeliners was added to the bill. This is one of the best New Year’s Eve events I’ve been to, even better than Y2K in Vegas, so if you’re anywhere near southern California, you should check it out. The Orange County New Year’s Eve (OCNYE) will feature almost 30 bands including Blondie, The English Beat, the Violent Femmes, The Knack, The Tubes, Brett Michaels of Poison and more. Event founder, Rich Goodwin, say he started the event "simply because there was nothing to do in OC" (or anywhere else in Southern California for that matter). But when he came up with the idea nine years ago he had no money and no clout to get it done. After building a company called Vidsion Entertainment which managed 40 world-wide events in just 6 years, he sold it and went after the one event that eluded him for nine years-the OCNYE. Last year’s inaugural event had 15,000 attendees despite rain and wind storms coming through just 30 minutes prior to showtime. But, almost miraculously the skies cleared up in time, the water drained and the event went off as planned, highlighted by performances from Lit, Joan Jett, Sugar Ray on the main stage. 
Tickets to OCNYE are still available for the event and there are local partner hotels with shuttles available to the venue-so you can tie one on in your own private cabana or in one of the many lounges and you can leave the driving to someone else. Happy Holidays…and whatever you do, be responsible. Don’t Drink and Drive!
The Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival will be held June 14th through the 17th, 2007. The sixth annual show will once again be held in Manchester, Tennessee, about 60 miles southeast of Nashville, at its familiar 700-acre site. According to Billboard.com, a small supply of pre-sale tickets will be available beginning tomorrow at 10 AM Eastern.

If you are a band playing any kind of rock, including heavy metal, then you can participate ‘ROCK FOR PEACE’ in Pyong Yang, the capital city of North Korea. This is the very first time in history that North Korea allows western musicians in the heart of DPRK territory to play capitalist popular music. There are few restrictions and conditions on participation but any band will be considered even though you are from USA. The lyrics should not contain admirations on war, sex, violence, murder, drug, rape, non-governmental society, imperialism, colonialism, racism, anti-DPRK, and anti-socialism. 2007 marks the 15th anniversary of the seriously cool San Fran based Noise Pop Festival and for 2007 they have just announced their first couple of confirmed bands. For the festival set to take place from February 27 - March 4, 2007 the organisers are please to announce that a reunited Sebadoh will take the stage in addition to Teo Leo/Pharmacists, John Vanderslice, and Jolie Holland with more bands to be confirmed.
In addition they will be putting together their first ever Noise Pop Expo featuring "a day stage, Indie Night School panels, Noise Pop and Shop, art installations, a poster show, and much more" so 2007 is shaping up to be an even better Noise Pop than usual. Just a quick heads up that the next two International Pop Overthrow festivals are coming up in Boston and New York City this November.
