Summit05box150x100px If you haven’t checked out the schedule for the upcoming Future of Music Summit coming this September 11 - 13, 2005 in Washington, DC then I urge you to have a look at who will be there and what they will be discussing. If you are in a band or somehow connected to the indie rock business you just might want to make the trip to DC to listen and learn.

Whatever Happened to Woodstock?

Friday, September 2nd, 2005

If you ever wondered what has become of Max Yasgur’s farm and the Woodstock concert site then you should definitely check out the Woodstock Preservation Archives. A very cool site on the battle to save some rock and roll history. Check it out.

Some site news

Friday, September 2nd, 2005

As September has hit and I start ramping up The Rock and Roll Report to once again become regularly updated with all kinds of rock and roll goodliness I just want to fill you in on what is coming up over the next few months.

First up is The Rock and Roll Report’s first ever online photography exhibit featuring the work of UK-based photographer Jenny Potter. I am pretty psyched about this and you should see everything up and running in the next few weeks. I’ll let you know when I plan the digital vernisage.

Second, Six Apart (the people behind Typepad which is the service that hosts The Rock and Roll Report) have started to add some really cool new features to the service (including Podcasting support!) so I will be looking at starting to tweak the site to take advantage of some of this stuff. The reason that I haven’t gotten around to overhauling the site is that quite frankly I haven’t had the time to delve into the esoteric coding requirements needed to do anything significant to the site. But with Typepad’s ease of use it looks like even I can handle this stuff with ease. Look for that to evolve over the next few months.

Third, I intend to ramp up my writing so that the site will feature less stuff contributed by services like the Indie News Beat (which is great by the way). I want to increase my features on bands and musicians from indie rock labels and services like My Space and CD Baby so if you have any suggestions just let me know. I have a bunch of CDs that I am starting to review and I have started to implement a more coherent review strategy that should allow me more time to listen and write record reviews. That being said, if you would like to contribute record reviews to the site of some great indie rock and roll that you think deserves to be promoted by all means let me know and we can have them posted to The Rock and Roll Report ASAP.

Finally, I intend to add a couple of new news feeds for your reading pleasure so keep an eye out for those.

In closing, please take a moment to click on the Red Cross donation button on the top left corner of the site to donate to the American Red Cross in aid of the victims of Huricane Katrina. The need is great.

Thanks for reading and here’s to a kick ass rest of 2005. I just watched "School of Rock" and needless to say I am pumped!

CBGB’s Closes for Good

Thursday, September 1st, 2005

It is unfortunately true that the legendary CBGB’s, birthplace of the Ramones has been closed for good. Now, while we bemoan the legendary rock and roll venue, I would like to check into the truth of this statement made by the landlord:

The Bowery Residents’ Committee, landlord of the building on the Bowery, "believes it is in the best interest of our clients — the homeless and neediest New Yorkers — to sever this relationship," BRC executive director Muzzy Rosenblatt said.

If this is the case then fine but how exactly is the closure of CBGB’s going to help the homeless of New York? I would like some details.
